Northern Initiatives was recently approved to make SBA loans in the Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. As one of several SBA designated micro-lenders in the State, NI has been making SBA funded loans since 1994 to all 15 counties in the Upper Peninsula. Please read the press release for more information!

Northern Initiatives logoIn 2004, Northern Initiatives expanded its service area to include 29 rural counties in the Lower Peninsula and is now able to offer SBA loans in 19 of those 29 counties, including:  Alcona, Alpena, Arenac, Cheboygan, Clare, Emmet, Gladwin, Iosco, Isabella, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montmorency, Newaygo, Oceana, Ogemaw, Osceola, Oscoda, and Presque Isle.

US Bancorp Foundation logoU.S. Bancorp Foundation has grants of $5,000 and up for organizations that provide affordable housing, encourage self-sufficiency, and assist economic development. Applications are accepted throughout the year.
 
 
Why should nonprofits compete when they can do more through collaboration? The Collaboration Prize, a $250,000 prize that recognizes collaborations among two or more nonprofit organizations that each would otherwise provide the same or similar programs or services and compete for clients, financial resources and staff. Nominations are accepted starting June 1.

1) Housing Impact Grants Program
Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded to tax-exempt organizations in the United States working to build and preserve affordable housing projects. Check out the Request for Proposals (RFP) for more information.
 
Deadline: June 15, 2008; September 15, 2008; and December 15, 2008
 

2) Partnering with Gifts In-Kind International to launch The Framing Hope Product Donation Program: 
 
Through this program, Home Depot stores throughout the country will be matched with charities in the local community-charities that will pick up a wide variety of donated products and building supplies from their partner stores on a weekly basis.
 
Read over the Eligibility Requirements to make sure that your nonprofit organization meets the minimum criteria for participation and complete the Home Depot Store Community Donation Program Application.

REMINDER: MSHDA is strongly encouraging all Grantees to attend a three day training on Residential Rehabilitation Construction and Specification Writing.
